Teaching Style

One of the things I love most about teaching piano, is being able to interact with a wide variety of personalities. Each student comes with his/her unique gifts, quirks, emotions, likes/dislikes, strengths/weaknesses. Because each student is different, I tailor the piano lessons to suit the individual student.

I was classically trained at the piano, and consequently I like to include technique work, sight-reading, theory, and ear training during piano lessons. I also have spent a number of years playing keyboards in rock bands, which has helped me to understand just how important the listening skills are (and yes, that music theory sure comes in handy, too!).

I enjoy having students in the California Certificate of Merit program, and I consider this program to be beneficial and a strong motivator for many students. I also believe that the Certificate of Merit program is NOT suited for every student.

My primary goal is to nurture the love of music and to lay down a foundation that will allow my students to be able to enjoy playing whatever music moves and excites them.
